University of Oklahoma

DATE:                 Thursday, March 31
TIME:                 12:00-1:30pm
LOCATION:       351 Academic Center

The research talk will briefly discuss two projects I have recently worked on and future work that all aim to use research to empower the voices and perspectives of Native American peoples.

As part of a collaborative team, I conducted democratic deliberations in three American Indian/Alaska Native communities to understand views on genomics, biobanking, and data sovereignty. Independently, I deployed the use of an Indigenous methodology, the Sharing Circle, to elicit the views of 18 Native American college students on genomics and identity.

These projects bring to the forefront of research the valuable perspectives of the people who continue to find themselves under the gaze of anthropology.

Following the talk, attendees are invited to a luncheon reception to meet the scholar.

Event sponsored by the Department of Anthropology and UB Office of Inclusive Excellence.
