Students in the Department of Oral Diagnostic Sciences in the School of Dental Medicine receive support through this fund.

Shortly after Dr. Alan Drinnan DDS '64 died unexpectedly, this fund was established to honor his memory, and provide financial assistance for students in the Department of Oral Diagnostic Sciences.

Dr. Drinnan, one of the key members of the UB faculty for more than 40 years, was a SUNY Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus at the UB School of Dental Medicine. He grew up in England, served as a Dental Officer in the British Army, and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Upon coming to Buffalo, he was quickly recruited for the UB faculty. He subsequently became a Diplomate of the American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, Chairman of the Department of Oral Medicine, and Director of the Dental Department of Buffalo General Hospital.

In between these activities, Dr. Drinnan found time to serve as President of the American and the International Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologists and as a consultant to the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, World Health Organization, American Dental Association, and numerous other organizations.
