An annual lecture — supported by this fund — features a prominent infectious diseases expert.

Thomas R. Beam, Jr. was a UB professor known internationally for his research on drug-resistant bacteria and viruses.

This fund, established by various colleagues and friends, supports outside speakers to deliver the Dr. Thomas R. Beam, Jr. Memorial Lecture for the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

Past speakers have included Jeffrey Cohen, MD, chief of the laboratory of infectious diseases at the NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and John Bennett, MD, co-editor of the gold-standard textbook on infectious diseases.

The lecture takes place during the Infectious Diseases Conference Series, which uses case discussions and didactic lectures to focus on the practical aspects of clinical infectious diseases diagnosis and management.
