Welch-Ludwig Fund for International Study

Associate Professor of Romance Languages and Literatures, Jeannette Ludwig and SUNY Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science, Claude Welch in Lockwood Library stacks.

In addition to providing study abroad experiences, this fund helps strengthen UB’s international resources on its Buffalo campus.

In an effort to help young Americans become citizens of the world as well as of their own country, this fund supports undergraduate as well as graduate study abroad experiences, and also helps bolster the university's global resources for all students on campus.

The fund was established by Claude E. Welch, SUNY Distinguished Service Professor and Jeannette Ludwig, Associate Professor of the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures.

The scholarships — which are awarded on a competitive basis — assist students with the costs of study abroad for an academic year, semester, summer or winter program. Most of the fund is used to provide financial support to students participating in study abroad experiences, with a smaller percentage allocated for general use by the university.

Preference will be given based on a variety of criteria, including students who are first-time study abroad participants, students with documented financial need, students who have selected a study abroad program relevant to their current academic program, and students who will return to UB for at least one semester following their study abroad program.
