Third-year law students who have participated in the Trial Advocacy program receive scholarships through this fund.

Matthew J. Schnirel, JD '08, was just beginning his career — the youngest associate at his firm — when his life was tragically cut short in a plane crash, as he and a senior partner were flying home from Cleveland after settling a case.

This fund, established in 2010 by his colleagues, friends and family, provides annual scholarships to third year law students who have participated in the UB Law School Trial Advocacy Program.

The Trial Advocacy Program is part of UB’s Advocacy Institute, which gives law students the opportunity to develop and practice their advocacy skills through the guidance of distinguished members of the local bar and bench.

As we build on the success of the historic Campaign for UB Law, we strive to keep law school and transformative opportunities within reach, align educational experiences with the demands of a shifting legal landscape and continue to attract exceptional faculty and fuel new innovations. With your help, we look forward to preparing the next generation of extraordinary law students who will make a bold impact, here and around the globe.
