Charles E. Mann Public Interest Award Fund

This fund supports first- or second-year law school students with unpaid internships in public interest.

The public interest and not-for-profit agencies where law students work are often understaffed and need additional assistance, but are unable to pay students. This fund helps allow talented students to work in the public interest and be paid to do so.

The Charles E. Mann Public Interest Award is given to the student who receives the highest ranking based on their involvement with the Buffalo Public Interest Law Program in the previous academic year. It was established in 2012 in memory of Charles E. Mann, a member of the UB Law School Class of 2012, by Michael D. Mann '06, Lois and Philip Mann and other family and friends.

The Buffalo Public Interest Law Program has provided valuable placement opportunities in many areas of law including domestic violence, human rights, child welfare, housing, disability, homelessness, the elderly and unemployment. All of these activities are done with BPILP’s motto in mind: “There Is No Justice Without Equal Access.”
