The concert will feature premieres of works for flute and piano by Anthony Vine and Zach Sheets, as well as duo and solo compositions by Tonia Ko, Eric Wubbels, Katie Balch, and David Felder. In these works, the performers will expand upon conventional roles as pianist and flutist, and interact with each other physically and visually. A special collaboration between Zach Sheets and UB composer Matthew Chamberlain will also take place during the residency, for the two to work together on Chamberlain’s innovative research on notational models and algorithmic composition with special flute fingerings.

The residency will provide the opportunity for rehearsals, choreography,  lighting design, and fine-tuning the new works by Sheets an Vine as well as an opportunities for Sheets to work with UB composer Matthew Chamberlain. Duo Axis will connect with students at UB through offering a reading session and office hours for the composition students as well as music coaching with students in the performance program. Additionally, Buffalo String Works, which works with the refugee community in the Buffalo area, has offered Duo Axis to present the project to its students during the residency.
