• Barbas brings historian’s skills to Baldy Center

    The Baldy Center for Law & Social Policy, the School of Law’s signature vehicle for interdisciplinary scholarship, is moving forward from last year’s 40th anniversary celebration with a new director. Samantha Barbas, professor of law, has been named to lead the center during the next chapter of its history. Barbas succeeds Errol Meidinger, SUNY Distinguished Professor and Margaret W. Wong Professor in the law school, who led the center for the past nine years until his recent retirement. UBNow News.

    November 1: UB's 2019 Celebration of Academic Excellence  honors Errol Meidinger upon his joining the ranks of SUNY Distinguished Professor, the highest rank in the SUNY system. The campus-wide event recognizes those individuals whose long-term contributions have made a significant impact on people and communities.
    October 26: Meidinger was honored at the UB School of Law 2019 All-Alumni Celebration.

    Meidinger co-edits “Transnational Business Governance Interactions”

    Errol Meidinger sees the big picture. His newest book, “Transnational Business Governance Interactions: Advancing Marginalized Actors and Enhancing Regulatory Quality,” is the latest example of this big-picture approach. The book looks at changing behaviors that cause environmental and social damage. Meidinger states, “We’ve catalyzed a global network of researchers working on these questions, and the book reports findings from 15 studies ranging across a lot of different areas. We are confident that it will be useful to activists, policy makers and researchers.” Read the Q&A.

    In conjunction with Civics Week, the New-York Historical Society features the talk by Samantha Barbas, with Randall Kennedy as moderator. Titled, "Civil Rights and Freedom of the Press: New York Times Co. v. Sullivan at 60," the annual Ann and Andrew Tisch Supreme Court Lecture, is presented in partnership with the Annenberg Public Policy Center’s Leonore Annenberg Institute for Civics. Learn about event.
