About Mirna Cadet
Mirna Cadet is a graduate student at the University of Buffalo, where she is currently pursuing a master's degree in real estate development alongside advanced certificates in historic preservation and affordable housing. She earned her bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Buffalo in May 2023. In addition, she also pursued a minor in philosophy, politics, and economics (PPE) during her undergraduate studies. A final requirement for the PPE minor was to create a project that could have a positive impact on our immediate community or the world. Because of this course assignment, Mirna started "Books for a Cause." Her emphasis was on organizing book drives on the campuses of the University at Buffalo and in the surrounding Buffalo community to assist individuals who are experiencing housing insecurity while residing in temporary housing. During her tenure, Mirna has served and worked on UB’s campuses in a variety of capacities. While living in Richmond during her freshman year, she was a senator for the Hall council.  Mirna has worked as a student assistant at the TASS center, and her most memorable internship was with the university police in the fall of 2022. Additionally, she served as a resident advisor, community assistant, and assistant hall director for Residential Life. During her final year at UB, she returned to the TASS center, where she serves as the Graduate Assistant for the First Generation and Peer Mentoring Programs, collaborating with first-generation college students like herself. This permits her to continue organizing book drives in the Buffalo community for various non-profit organizations that are at the forefront of the housing crisis that is currently affecting the nation. Mirna believes that giving individuals facing housing insecurities direct access to literature enables them to envision a solution to their situation and empowers them to make more informed decisions, including those related to real estate. Mirna is also a fervent advocate for the positive outcomes of volunteering and paying it forward. Mirna derives pleasure from reading proverbs and random quotes, as well as accumulating memes and gifs. However, her absolute favorite pastime is listening to the voiceovers used in pet videos on YouTube.
