This presentation explores how universities can amplify neurodiverse voices to foster inclusion, enhance their reputation, and engage stakeholders. Attendees will learn how to identify compelling stories within their institution, craft media pitches that align with institutional goals, and integrate storytelling into DEI and community outreach efforts. By embracing inclusive storytelling, universities can create a culture of empathy, attract funding and enrollment, and make a meaningful impact on campus and beyond.

About Esther Dillard
Esther Dillard, BA '91, is a storyteller who has worked in television, radio and print media who has a unique connection to the disabled community. She's worked for seven years as a professor at the college level and can provide a unique perspective after working with students — many who prefer not to identify if they have a hidden disability like autism, or ADHD. This community is often struggling in silence in educational, professional and even faith community spaces because of the past stigma associated with hidden disabilities.

She enjoys highlighting these stories and struggles in this community. And hopefully shining a light on areas that need to be explored as more people are identifying as living and struggling on The Autism Spectrum.

Esther Dillard is a 2024 Gracies Award Winner, writer, anchor and reporter for the Black Information Network. She won this award for her three part radio series called: Black, Autistic and Safe. The series focused on Black Parents of Autistic Adults who shared their challenges in keeping their children safe from police brutality.

Esther used this material in her book entitled: Raising An Autistic Young Adult: A Parents' Guide to ASD Safety, Communication and Employment Opportunities to Empower Black and Brown Caregivers and Their Families.

She also is a host, speaker, and coach with seven years teaching experience as a multi-media professor. You can check out her website at www.estherdillard.com.
