This means that your current UB Career Connector/Firsthand credentials will work through Tuesday, May 31. While we transition to the new platform, we invite you to keep connected by accessing our myriad UB alumni career resources, including a robust series of lifelong learning webinars.

• What is Firsthand?
    Firsthand is a propriety platform that many colleges and universities implement to form connections between students and alumni in the form of career mentorship. These relationships, which are encouraged and stewarded by both the Office of Alumni Engagement and the Division of Student Life, are part of the lifelong connections we seek to build between alumni and future alumni for the betterment of the both the individuals and the University at large.

• Why have you decided to switch mentoring platforms?
     To ensure we’re providing the best service to our alumni and students, the university regularly reviews and assesses the vendors and products we offer. During the process of reviewing our mentoring platform, we have found other companies that can offer a better user experience and support than our current vendor, Firsthand.

• When is the last day alumni and students can use Firsthand?
    Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

• When will you be launching the new mentoring platform?
    Our goal is to have the new platform deployed for alumni and student use this fall.

• How will I be notified of the opportunity to register for the new and improved mentoring platform?
    Members of the Firsthand: Career Connector Network will automatically receive an invitation to join the new platform as soon as it is up and running.
    If you are not a member of the Firsthand: Career Connector Network but want to use the new platform, please let us know! We will make sure you receive the invitation to register on the new tool. Please email us using the form below to note your request to be on our announcement list.

• What will happen to my current profile in the Career Connector Network
    Your profile and your account information will be deleted.

• Will my profile automatically be uploaded to a new platform?
    Our goal is to create a seamless registration process for returning users. We will share registration instructions once a new vendor is selected.

• What happens if I have meeting scheduled with a student or other graduate after the expiration date of the current platform?
    Unfortunately, that meeting will not be supported by Firsthand if it is scheduled for June 1 or after. We recommend moving any meetings to earlier in May if possible.

• Is there a way I can connect with current alumni volunteers before the new platform is in place?
    Not at this time. We encourage you to make connections before the site closes on May 31 and check out the alumni career resources we have available online.
