We are committed to supporting the next generation of outstanding UB alumni. Each year the UB Alumni Association collaborates with the UB Future Alumni Network (UBFAN) to award three scholarships to deserving UB students.
The J. Scott Fleming Merit Award was established in 1985 as a student-to-student allotment to recognize full-time undergraduate and graduate students for their leadership efforts through extracurricular and volunteer activities at the university. Awards of $500 each are given to up to four students. The J. Scott Fleming Merit Award is administered by the UB Future Alumni Network (UBFAN), the student chapter of the UB Alumni Association. The award honors J. Scott Fleming, who served as executive director of the Office of Alumni Relations (now the Office of Alumni Engagement).
The Willie R. Evans Legacy Scholarship assists enrolled UB students who are children or grandchildren of UB alumni. The amount of the scholarship varies from year to year based on the growth of the endowment. The minimum scholarship is $1,500 and may be awarded to multiple recipients. Scholarships are awarded annually to qualifying full-time students in any academic discipline or course of study. Awards are made without regard to age, race, creed, color, gender, citizenship or religion. The Legacy Scholarship was established in 2008 by the UB Alumni Association and was renamed in honor of alumnus Willie R. Evans in 2009.
The UB Alumni Association Alumnae Scholarship is awarded to female UB students who have demonstrated engagement and leadership. Scholarships are awarded to qualifying full- or part-time students in any course of study. The amount of the scholarship varies from year to year based on the growth of the endowment. The minimum scholarship is $1,500 and may be awarded to multiple recipients. In 1941, UB alumnae created a scholarship for female students registered in any department or division of the university. In 2010, the UB Alumni Association reintroduced the Alumnae Scholarship.
Our scholarships are administered, in part, by the UB Future Alumni Network (UBFAN). The deadline to submit completed applications for UB Alumni Association Scholarships is June 30 each year. No late applications will be accepted. Awards are made without regard to race, creed, color, citizenship or religion.
