Kay A. Stanney, BS ’86

Stanney is founder and CEO of Orlando-based Design Interactive, Inc. (DI), which specializes in human systems integration. She earned her UB undergraduate degree in industrial engineering, and spent several years as an engineer at Intel. She then went on to earn master’s and doctoral degrees from Purdue University, after which she spent 16 years as an engineering professor at the University of Central Florida. She founded DI in 1998. Her research and development, which focuses on empowering people with innovative technology, has influenced the design of virtual reality (VR) headsets, military training solutions, amusement park rides and Fortune 100 enterprise solutions. A certified human factors professional, Stanney is recognized for selecting, developing and mentoring high-potential emerging thought leaders. She was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering in 2019 for her contributions to “human factors engineering through virtual reality technology and strategic leadership.”
