Andrew J. Hyland, PhD ’98, MA ’95, BA ’92 

Hyland, chair of the Department of Health Behavior at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, has spent decades in the field of tobacco control research, conducting clinical and population-based studies and publishing hundreds of papers. He has served in advisory roles for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the International Agency for Research on Cancer; Hyland also is the director of the New York State Smokers Quitline, and a NYS Department of Health consultant. His research includes identifying strategies to boost the reach and efficacy of stop-smoking intervention and anti-smoking campaign effectiveness, while continuing to study ways to reduce the tobacco disease burden by as much and to as many people as possible.
