The Advanced Materials Thrust is lead by Krishna Rajan, the inaugural Erich Bloch Chair of the Department of Materials Design and Innovation (MDI). A leading proposal of the Materials Informatics field, his research focuses on the application of information science and data intensive methodologies for the discover, characterization and modeling of materials. 

MDI offers the nation's first AI-centric graduate and undergraduate materials science and engineering program.
