Abstract

We use GIS and individual-level data to understand the relationship between spatial, social, and cultural factors in accounting for individuals’ linguistic knowledge.

Spatial network of language use in the Lower Fungom region of Cameroon. Blue and pink triangles: villages. Large red circle: the Abar village and main area of use of the Abar language. Orange dots: Sampled individuals who reported being able to speak the Abar language. Gray dots: Sampled individuals who did not report being able to speak the Abar language. Dots representing individuals are placed according to their village of residence.
