How to detect deepfake videos like a fact-checker

PolitiFact interviewed Siwei Lyu, SUNY Empire Innovation Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, for an article on how to spot deepfake videos. 

Programs used to create deepfake videos are powerful but not yet perfect, Lyu said. Eyes can be a telltale sign. 

“I always look into the eyes" of the person in the video, Lyu said. “In some cases, the reflections are not consistent, almost as if one eye is looking at one thing and the other is looking at the other.”
