Billy Schoenberg: Modeling with AI: Exploring the Future of Simulation Modeling

Abstract:

Artificial Intelligence offers simulation modelers a transformative opportunity by reducing learning barriers and enhancing productivity without altering the core methodology of how it's practiced. This talk will demonstrate how simulation modelers can leverage generative AI throughout the entire modeling process, including ideation, hypothesizing, quantifying, analyzing, and policy making. The most important skills needed to maximize these technologies will be outlined, emphasizing that the modeler remains at the center of the modeling process. Both the opportunities created by these new tools and the risks they pose will be examined.

Speaker Bio:

Billy Schoenberg is a lead software engineer at isee Systems inc, a Researcher at the University of Bergen, and an Affiliate Faculty member of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (IAD) at the University at Buffalo. He holds a Ph.D. in System Dynamics from the University of Bergen and a BS in Environmental Studies from SUNY-ESF. He is a key member of the team that designs and develops Stella Architect and the isee Exchange, tools that are used to build and host simulation models. He’s always been fascinated by the relationship between structure and behavior and building tools to enhance the modelling process.
