Outstanding Service Recognized

On 10/10/2021, all north patrols were dispatched to the Student Union for a report of a female who texted her RA and told him she “needed help” and that she has been having suicidal thoughts. Upon arrival, Officers Sprigg and Schiffman followed sounds of a female crying to the terrace level of the building, where they found the student sitting on the exterior ledge. The officers were able to calmly obtain her cooperation and physically assisted her back over the railing. Then, by continuing with a calm, compassionate, and patient response, officers were able to interview her and determine that she needed to be sent for mental health evaluation. She was successfully transported a hospital evaluation without further incident.

For their professional and effective response to a potentially suicidal student, it is my pleasure to recognize Officer Christopher Sprigg and Connor Schiffman as our Officers of the Quarter.

All three of these officers volunteered their time to coordinate two charitable initiatives on behalf of UB Police. Officer Dobson coordinated our food drive for Feed More NY, while Officers Sweeney and Skawienski headed up our Adopt a Family holiday effort in support of two families this year!  Both programs were especially successful and their efforts are greatly appreciated!
