Trademarks & Licensing

Our Trademarks and Licensing program maintains the university's legal rights by monitoring and controlling the use of UB trade names and trademarks, and collects on royalties.

There was a significant increased awareness of the UB mark/brand by manufacturers who are interested in making the product available if retailers choose to carry it.

Gross Royalties by quarter from 2012 to quarter 1 2013

A 4% increase in royalties over the same quarter the previous year.

Artwork Approvals

Nearly a 100% increase in vendors requesting artwork approvals for their catalog of merchandise.   This sharp increase in trademark approvals from 2012 to 2013 is due to an increased volume of retail items sold to large local area mass-merchants such as Walmart and Kohls. Online sales also offered more design variation but did not necessarily equate to sold merchandise due to on-demand production.
