Alpha Beta Sigma Sorority, Inc. was founded on February 6, 1998, by ten undergraduate women at the State University of New York at Buffalo.  These women had a desire to bring together a spiritual union of Afrikan, Caribbean, and Latina women through five principles:  sisterhood, higher education, women in business, national and local awareness, and the Afrikan, Caribbean, and Latina culture.

Self proclaimed, the Enlightened Women of Alpha Beta Sigma Sorority, Inc. have upheld these principles through various cultural and academic programs as well as philanthropic projects.  At its inception, Alpha Beta Sigma Sorority, Inc. set out to make a real and substantial difference impact on the community.  Through many community targeted programs Alpha Beta Sigma Sorority, Inc. continues to grow.  In 1999, the sorority announced Sickle Cell Disease as its National Philanthropy with the establishment of the Jael Tabina Moore Sickle Cell Fund.  Since then, Alpha Beta Sigma has launched various projects to benefit Sickle Cell including the Walk for Sickle Cell Disease.

Members of the sorority hope to have a positive and enlightening effect on communities throughout the world.
