Special Thanks
Big Boost for WBFO
Fund to strengthen station's programming, outreach
A gift from the Donald L. Davis Foundation of Amherst has created the Don Davis Auto World Fund from WBFO 88.7 FM, the National Public Radio affiliate operated by UB. The gift-the largest in WBFO history-will allow the station to develop new programming and buy new equipment.
"An endowment for WBFO has been one of our high hopes for a long while," said Jennifer Roth, WBFO general manager. "The Don Davis Auto World Fund will strengthen the station's financial security, and will enable us to continue improving the quality of our programming."
A native of Buffalo who attended UB, Don Davis started the Don Davis Auto World Endowed Lectureship Fund, which supports the university's Distiguished Speaker Series. This annual series has brought many notable figures to campus, including two former U.S. presidents.

Gift of workstations enhances UB Libraries

Efforts to enhance digital information resources at UB have been furthered with a gift of five multimedia workstations-valued at $28,000-from Sun Microsystems Computer Co., a worldwide leader in network computing systems.

"UB wants to continue distributing comprehensive information to users of the University Libraries, but needs a more flexible and sophisticated environment than is now available," said Stephen Roberts, associate director of University Libraries. "The workstations are the first major phase in developing the next generation of information interface that is graphical in nature and tied into the Internet environment."

Workstation users will have the capability to access a variety of bibliographic, full-text and multimedia resources via three newly installed UNIX servers at University Libraries, or through connections to remote information servers around the world over the Internet.
