The School of Dental Medicine is gearing up for its second annual Run for Smiles 5k race to be held April 20 on the South Campus. The run begins and ends in front of the Health Sciences Library. Race time is 10 a.m.
Run for Smiles serves to raise awareness of the dental school clinics in the Western New York community.
Registration, if submitted by April 18, is $20; registration on April 19 and April 20 will cost $25. Race T-shirts will go to first 500 applicants. Packet pickup and in-person registration will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 19 and before the race on April 20.
Tents with food, beverages and live music will be available for a post-race celebration in the Squire Quad facing the finish line. There also will be awards and trophies for top finishers in their divisions.
Participants can register online.
Funds raised by the race will go to UB CARES (Counseling, Advocacy, Referral, Education, Service), a program at the dental school that works to break down barriers to patient dental care.
The run also will benefit BOCA (Buffalo Outreach and Community Assistance), a student-run group that provides free treatment in many locations throughout the world.
Last year, Run for Smiles helped raise thousands to benefit outreach programs at the dental school.
