UB soon will begin national searches for two new vice presidents to join UB’s senior leadership team. President Satish K. Tripathi says the positions—vice president for communications and vice president and chief information officer—are an essential part of UB’s strategy to take UB 2020 to the next level.
The vice president for communications would be a new vice presidential post; the university’s institutional communications enterprise has been housed in various administrative units over the years. The chief information officer position has been held for several years in an interim basis by Tom Furlani.
In an email to the university community, Tripathi said that he would formally establish search committees for these two positions within the next two weeks.
Laura Hubbard, vice president for finance and administration, will chair the vice president for communications search committee. The new vice president will oversee the university’s communications enterprise, with responsibility for strategizing, planning, managing and measuring institutional communications; developing communication strategies to support institutional goals; and building and guarding the institutional brand.
Liesl Folks, dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, will chair the vice president and CIO search committee. The vice president and CIO will oversee information technology, computing services and administrative information systems across the university and provide forward-looking vision, leadership and long-range direction for delivering innovative IT infrastructure to advance the university’s research and educational missions.
Tripathi said he hopes to have both vice presidents in place before the start of the fall 2013 semester.
