Finalists in the searches for new deans for the Graduate School of Education and the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences have been identified and are coming to UB during the next two weeks.
All candidates already have participated in confidential, off-campus interviews. While on campus, they will meet with representative faculty, staff, students, alumni, members of the university’s senior leadership team and volunteers. They also will participate in open forum sessions with the campus community.
The candidates for the GSE deanship are Patricia Simmons, professor and head, Department of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education, North Carolina State University; V. Scott Solberg, associate dean for research and professor, Counseling and Human Development, School of Education, Boston University; R.W. Kamphaus, Distinguished Research Professor, Department of Counseling and Psychological Services, Georgia State University; and Jaekyung Lee, interim dean and professor, UB Graduate School of Education.
Their CVs can be found on the education dean search website.
The new dean will replace Mary Gresham, who left the deanship last July to take a new position as vice provost for educational collaboration and engagement. Lee has been serving as interim since then.
Simmons will visit UB on May 6, Solberg on May 9, Kamphaus on May 13 and Lee on May 14. Public forums with each candidate will take place from 3:30-4:30 p.m. the day of their visit in 101 Baldy Hall, North Campus. Sessions specifically for students also are scheduled that day. See the website for those times and locations.

The finalists’ CVs are available on the search website.
The new dean will replace Wayne K. Anderson, who is stepping down as dean at the end of the academic year after 18 years of service.
Hass will visit UB on May 6, Halpert on May 7, Bolton on May 8 and O’Donnell on May 9. Public forums with Hass, Halpert and O’Donnell will take place from 4-5 p.m. the day of their visit in 264 A-B Kapoor Hall, South Campus. The session with O’Donnell will be held from 9-10 a.m. on May 9 in 264 A-B Kapoor. Student sessions with each candidate will take place the day of the visit. See the website for times and locations.
Dental school dean Michael Glick and architecture school dean Robert Shibley, chairs of the pharmacy and education search committees, respectively, urged members of the UB community to attend the open forum sessions and offer their feedback on the candidates. Input can be provided confidentially to the pharmacy committee PharmacyDeanSearch@buffalo.edu by May 13 and to the education committee GSEDeanSearch@buffalo.edu by May 15.
The search committees will prepare reports on the finalists for President Satish K. Tripathi and Provost Charles Zukoski, who will make the final decisions.
