Install left-turn signal on Sweet Home Road
To the Editor:
There was another serious, two-car collision on Oct. 10 at the intersection of Sweet Home Road and the UB Campus' Rensch entrance. This is another in a series of traffic accidents involving cars turning into the North Campus at that intersection.
The left-turn lane on Sweet Home northbound has a left-turn traffic light. The left-turn lane on Sweet Home southbound does not. This is totally irrational and inexplicable. The lane with the light serves a few dozen houses on the Rensch Road extension. The lane without the light serves hundreds of commuters entering the UB campus, in particular large numbers of graduate students living in the Flickinger Court housing complex, as well as large numbers of UB staff and students who live north and west of Sweet Home Road.
I strongly urge that this matter be looked into and that the relevant town or county authorities be persuaded to install a left-turn traffic light on Sweet Home southbound at the Rensch intersection. I see that UB is spending thousands of dollars beautifying the signage at that intersection. The inadequate traffic light at the intersection mars the image UB is attempting to create.
Sincerely,
