Theatre and Dance to present "Savage in Limbo"
The Department of Theatre and Dance will present "Savage in Limbo" at 8 p.m. today through Saturday and at 5 p.m. Sunday in the Katharine Cornell Theatre in the Ellicott Complex on the North Campus. The play, directed by Maria S. Horne, assistant professor of theatre and dance, features a student cast.
"Savage in Limbo," written by Academy-Award winning playwright John Patrick Shanley, won the 1987 Los Angeles Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Play. Shanley is more widely known for "Moonstruck," the screenplay that earned him Academy and Writers Guild of America awards.
Set in an anonymous Bronx bar, the play moves from comedy to near tragedy, exploring the hopes and dreams of a group of five rootless young losers who congregate there to escape the disappointments and tediousness of the outside world.
This production of "Savage in Limbo" will represent UB and the United States at Les Fetes Theatrales du Suroit International Theatre Festival next month in Montreal.
Tickets are $5 for the public and $3 for senior and students. They may be purchased at the Center for the Arts box office from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. For more information, call 645-ARTS.
