17 faculty proposals receive grants to support information-technology applications in the classroom
Seventeen faculty proposals have won educational technology grants totaling $146,075 for the development of information-technology applications in the classroom for 2000-2001. The awards, which range from $3,000 to $10,000, are for proposals with a significant-but not exclusive-emphasis on introductory-level courses preparatory to the unfolding of the second year of Access99, the student computer-access initiative.
According to William Fischer, vice provost for faculty development, this investment "represents the university's continuing commitment to supporting faculty engagement in the integration of IT into the rapidly evolving academic learning environment." The program was sponsored by the Office of the Senior Vice Provost for Educational Technology.
