J. Warren Perry, dean emeritus of the School of Health Related Professions, gave the keynote address at the annual conference of the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions (ASAHP) held recently in San Diego. The conference theme was "Celebrating Three Decades of Success." Perry, a founder of the organization who served as its second president, gave a perspective on ASAHP's achievements since its establishment in 1967. The annual Distinguished Author's Award of the Journal of Allied Health was instituted as the J. Warren Perry Award.
Sebastian G. Ciancio, professor and chair of the Department of Periodontics in the School of Dental Medicine, was honored recently by officers and trustees of the American Dental Association (ADA) for outstanding service to the ADA's Council on Scientific Affairs. Appointed to the council in 1994 in recognition of his expertise in clinical dental pharmacology, Ciancio served as a member until 1997. He was council vice chair this past year. He also was named by Dentistry Today as one of nation's leading lecturers in continuing dental education.
