SEFA success wins plaudits for UB
Chairšs Cup goes to SILS; other units honored for contributions

send this article to a friendMembers of the university community have demonstrated their deep commitment to the people of Western New York by once again helping UB to exceed its SEFA goal.

To date, UB faculty, staff, students and volunteers have contributed $677,698, 103.7 percent of the 1998 goal of $653,600.

In all, 14 of the university's 21 SEFA units met or exceeded their goals: the Office of the Provost, School of Architecture and Planning, Graduate School of Education, School of Information and Library Studies, Law School, School of Management, Office of the President, School of Social Work, UB Foundation, Student Affairs, University Services, the offices of the Vice Presidents for Research, Advancement and Development, and Public Service and Urban Affairs.

"Any time you're asked to follow up on something that has such a history of success, there's a feeling of trepidation-will UB be able to do it again?" noted Dennis Black, vice president for student affairs and chair of this year's SEFA campaign.

"As the 1998 campaign comes to an end, the SEFA administrative team is overwhelmed by the positive response of the university community, and left with two thoughts: a sense of how important what we do on campus is to the community, and the sense that no matter how committed and successful we are in 1998, we need to be even more committed and successful in 1999."

A number of units were honored this morning for their contributions to the 1998 campaign.

The Chair's Cup, which recognizes the unit that exceeds its goal and demonstrates the greatest increase in contributions, was awarded to the School of Information and Library Studies.

In addition, certificates of achievement were presented to units and individuals who made important contributions to putting this year's campaign "over the top." They include:

- Greatest percentage of respondents-UB Foundation (100 percent), Office of the Vice President for Research (95.2 percent), Office of the President (93.7 percent)

- First unit to reach goal: School of Management

- Greatest increase in responses, contributions and givers: School of Social Work

- Administrative Team Support: University Services, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences

Special campus recognition also was presented to James Nadbrzuch for his leadership role in the campaign, and to Kevin Seitz and Tim Murphy for their Day of Caring efforts.

R. Nils Olsen, Jr., professor of law, will serve as chair of the 1999 SEFA campaign.
