Christopher Densmore, director of the UB Archives, received the Owen B. Augspurger Award of the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society at its 138th Annual Meeting and Awards Program. Densmore was honored for his work as a historian of the Niagara Frontier. He is the author of a number of highly regarded books and journal articles on Quaker history, the women's rights movement and Iroquois history in New York State.

Librarian Kathleen Delaney, UB Archives, will make a presentation, "The Legacy of the Love Canal in New York State's Environmental History: The Love Canal Archives Project," in Albany tomorrow as part of "Researching New York 2000: Perspectives on Empire State History," a conference sponsored by the History Department, SUNY Albany.

Five UB faculty and staff members were recognized by UB's Environment and Society Institute for their service on its steering committee. Errol Meidinger, past director of ESI and professor of law; Joseph A. Gardella, professor of chemistry; David M. Mark, professor of geography; H. Lorraine Oak, associate dean, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and A. Scott Weber, professor of civil, structural and environmental engineering and executive director of the New York State Center for Hazardous Waste Management, received awards from John E. Vena, ESI director and professor of social and preventive medicine.
