Ball State 44, UB 35

UB nearly pulled off a homecoming miracle Saturday afternoon against visiting Ball State before 13,064 fans in UB Stadium.

The Bulls (1-6, 1-3 in the MAC) spotted the Cardinals a 35-7 halftime lead before making an incredible comeback to trail just 41-35 with 6:40 remaining in the game. However, just when the Bulls appeared poised to pull off the greatest comeback in school history, Ball State (3-4, 3-1) put together a 13-play drive-all on the ground-and Mike Langford kicked a game-clinching field goal with 1:11 remaining to hold off UB, 44-35.

UB went 1-1-1 for the week and earned its first MAC victory of the season.

The week opened with a 2-2 tie at Niagara. The Purple Eagles opened the scoring just 1:50 into the match. Mike Peplinski tied the contest for the Bulls at the 10:32 mark and the teams went into the half knotted at 1-1.

The Bulls took a 2-1 lead in the second half as Brian McCallion scored at 60:58. It would be short-lived, however, as Niagara scored the equalizer 1:04 later.

The Bulls recorded their first MAC win of the season on Friday with a 3-2 victory over Western Michigan.

The Bulls came out charging, recording eight shots before the Broncos got off their first shot. The Bulls got on the board in the 18th minute on a goal from Chris Vinci. Western Michigan came back in the 24th minute as Trevor Garrison scored off a penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1.

That score would not last long as McCallion scored the go-ahead goal a few minutes later. McCallion scored again midway through the second half for a 3-1 UB lead. Western Michigan added a late goal for the 3-2 final.

UB ended the week with a heart-breaking loss to Northern Illinois, 2-1, in double overtime.

UB 1, Bowling Green 1
UB 3, Toledo 1

The women's soccer team became the first UB team to win a MAC regular-season championship as the Bulls tied Bowling Green and defeated Toledo to push their league mark to 8-2-1 and their overall record to 12-5-1.

In UB's 1-1 tie with Bowling Green on Friday, all the scoring came in a three-minute span late in the second half, with Bowling Green finding the net first.

UB came back quickly, though, as Nicole Olszewski got the ball in the middle of the box and passed to the left side, where Elizabeth Pfeffer hit a shot from a tough angle and found the net, tying the game at 1-1 at the 82:12 mark.

Both teams had chances but failed to score in the overtime period.

The Bulls sewed up the regular-season title and the number-one seed in the upcoming MAC tournament with a 3-1 win over Toledo Sunday afternoon.

UB got the scoring started early in the game as Cherie Rogers scored off a pass from Paula Listrani at the 14:42 mark. The score remained 1-0 into the second half before Heather Collins scored to give the Bulls their second goal.

Toledo cut the lead to 2-1, but Listrani again found the open teammate, hitting Jennifer Keefe who scored the third UB goal to secure the victory.
