Men's

UB 62, Youngstown State 81
UB 80, Valparaiso 82

The Bulls suffered their first Mid-Continent Conference defeat of the season on Jan. 14 with a loss at Youngstown State, 81-62. The Bulls shot 43 percent in the game, but just 23.1 percent from beyond the arc. Senior Rasaun Young led the Bulls with 19 points, 17 of them coming in the second half, while senior Mike Martinho added 11 points and a season-high seven assists. Senior Matt Clemens also chipped in with 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting.

Freshman Nikolai Alexeev had a career-high seven rebounds and six points for the Bulls, who gave up 45 points in the second half after trailing just 36-30 at intermission.

On Jan. 17, Young had a season-high 32 points as the Bulls fell to Valparaiso, 82-80. Seniors Mike Martinho and Scott McMillin also contributed in double figures with 21 and 12, respectively. Freshman point guard Ryan Peterson had a career high 13 assists and only one turnover in 39 minutes of play.

The Bulls are now in a second-place tie in the conference.

UB 57, Youngstown State 83
UB 75, Valparaiso 79

The Bulls suffered their first conference loss of the season, 83-57, at rival Youngstown State on Jan. 14.

The Bulls got off to a quick start, scoring the first four points of the game. However, Buffalo turned the ball over 19 times in the first half, enabling the Penguins to gain a 41-26 halftime lead. Things didn't change much in the second half as the Bulls continued to be plagued by turnovers, adding 18 more to their stats for a total of 37 for the game.

Freshman Tiffany Bell was the only UB player to score in double figures with 13 points. Bell also led the Bulls in rebounding with nine. The Bulls' leading scorer, Catherine Jacobs, was held to just six points.

On Jan. 18, UB tried to knock off another undefeated Mid-Con team, Valparaiso. UB led by as much as 44-37 in the second half, and junior guard Meagan McCray kept the Bulls close in the second half by hitting all four of her three pointers, including one that brought the Bulls within two points of Valparaiso, 77-75. Young had a chance to tie the game, but missed a leaning 10-foot jumper with 40 seconds to go, and the Crusaders clinched the game with 11 seconds left in regulation. Five UB players scored in double figures.

Men's

UB 112, University of Maryland-Baltimore County 119
UB 101.50, Lasalle 139.50

The Bulls went 0-2 this past week with losses to the University of Maryland-Baltimore County and Lasalle.

UB went event-for-event on Jan. 16 against UMBC with no more than a seven-point swing score. The meet came down to the last two swimmers in the last race, the 400-freestyle relay, in which UB was touched out at the wall by UMBC.

UMBC has finished second at the ECAC's the last three years in a row. Lasalle has finished third in the ECAC's the last two years.

At the halfway mark in the meet against Lasalle on Jan. 17, the score was tied, but Lasalle controlled the second half, capturing the meet 139.50 to 101.50.

Wrestling

UB 12, Ohio University 25
UB 12, Edinboro 26

The Bulls were swept in two dual-meet matches this weekend at Edinboro, Pa., losing to Ohio University, 25-12, and to 14th-ranked Edinboro, 26-12. Senior 150-pounder John Stutzman was the only UB wrestler to earn wins in both matches, while junior 118-pounder Brian Schaal pinned his opponent from Ohio at 5:57 and freshman 126-pounder Chad Caros pinned his opponent from Edinboro at 8:02 of sudden-death overtime.
