Sigma Xi Annual Research Competition

The 1997 Sigma Xi Annual Research Day was held May 1 in UB's Center for Tomorrow, with 85 undergraduate and graduate students presenting posters from UB, Roswell Park, Canisius and D'Youville colleges.

Undergraduate award winners were:

Christopher Cornell, Department of Biology, for a poster titled "Role of DNA Sequence Dependent DNA Bending on Recognition of 434 Operators by 434 Repressor."

Elizabeth Johns, Department of Biochemistry, for a poster titled "Pharmacokinetics of Vanadium Following Repeated Oral Dosing with Vanadyl Sulfate in Patients with NIDDM."

Breton Bienvenue and Alysia Roehrig, Department of Psychology, for a poster titled "Encoding of Unexpressed Instruments and Locations."

Graduate award winners were:

Timothy Curry, Department of Physiology, for a poster titled "Acute Manipulation of Dietary Fat and Formation of Venous Gas Emboli (VGE) after Diving."

Jason Yaworsky, Clinical Laboratory Science, for a poster titled "Modulation of the Immune Response Using Photodynamic Therapy."

Leslie Matuszewich and Daniel S. Lorrain, Department of Psychology, for a poster titled "Modulation of Extracellular Dopamine in the Medial Preoptic Area of Female Rats in Different Mating Contexts."
