  • Get blue for men’s home opener

    The UB men’s basketball team will open the 2011-12 season with a 7 p.m. tip-off Friday in Alumni Arena against St. Peter’s.

    Faculty and staff are encouraged to support the Bulls and show their pride by sporting UB apparel at the game as part of the newly created Get Blue! Fridays campaign, which encourages employees to wear UB-branded merchandise every Friday during the academic year.

  • UUP president to visit UB

    Phil Smith, statewide president of United University Professions, the union representing UB faculty and professional staff, will visit UB on Monday to update members on the union’s current contract negotiations with New York State.

    Smith will speak and answer questions at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Student Union Theater, 201 Student Union, North Campus.

    No RSVP is required. All members of the Buffalo Center Chapter and the Health Sciences Center Chapter are welcome.

  • PSS organizes professional clothing drive

    The Professional Staff Senate is organizing a professional clothing drive to help those in need join or rejoin the work force.

    Donations of women’s and men’s new and gently used professional clothing will benefit several New York organizations, including Everywoman Opportunity Center Inc., Haven House, the YWCA and Workforce New York.

    Clothing will be collected at the PSS’ general membership meeting on Nov. 17 in the Center for Tomorrow, beginning at 2:15 p.m.

    Those unable to attend the meeting may drop off their donations at additional sites on the North and South campuses. Check this flyer for donation locations.

  • Half-price aerobics passes available

    UB faculty and staff can take advantage of half-price aerobics and biking classes offered by Recreation and Intramural Services through the end of the semester.

    The $55 semester fee for faculty and staff is now $27.50 through the end of the semester. The fee for students is now $20 and members of the community may purchase the pass for $30. The single-class pass will remain $5.

    Passes may be purchased in 130 Alumni Arena, North Campus, and in 113 Clark Hall, South Campus.

    The pass provides access to an unlimited number of aerobics and biking classes. Memberships or recreation passes are not needed unless participants plan to use areas of Alumni Arena or Clark Hall other than the fitness classes.
