The 2011 UB Employees Campaign for the Community began this week, offering all employees the opportunity to make donations to more than 600 programs and agencies in the Western New York community and beyond.

Begun 35 years ago as the State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA), the campaign consistently ranks among the nation’s leaders of colleges and universities in charitable giving. The goal of this year’s campaign is $825,000; Dennis R. Black, vice president for university life and services, is campaign chair.

This year’s campaign is the second that will be paperless for most employees. By transitioning the campaign to an online donation system, more than $4,000 and 120,000 sheets of paper were saved last year.

Employees can make donations by visiting the campaign’s page on the UB Cares site, where they will find instructions and log-in information, as well as a video tutorial.

The campaign, which will run through November, features a number of incentives. New this year is a prize raffle every two weeks to encourage employee response. Only those individuals who have responded to the campaign are eligible to win; the earlier employees respond, the more chances they have to win.

Prizes include reserved parking for the spring 2012 semester (drawing on Oct. 5); an iPad (drawing on Oct. 19); two reserved tickets to a DSS lecture, a UB football game and a UB basketball game (Nov. 2); $250 on a UB card (Nov. 16); and $100 on UB card (Nov. 30).

In addition, employees who make a donation by Oct. 8 can receive two complimentary tickets to the Bulls home football game that day against Ohio. Employees should bring their completed form in a sealed envelope or their online receipt to the Alumni Arena ticket office or to the UB Stadium box office on game day. Additional tickets can be purchased for $10; seating is based on availability. Kickoff is 3:30 p.m.
