  • Although I am certain my wife does not consider me a romantic, I usually deliver flowers and her favorite—chocolate-covered strawberries—to her school and then prepare a dinner of some of her favorite foods. This way, I can claim to be continuing my work in education while scoring my wife priceless bragging points with other teachers!

  • My long-time love would bring me flowers for Valentine’s Day and we would go to dinner and a movie. We first met in 1972, but then went on to marry other people. After both of our marriages ended, we got back together in 1987 and it was a very loving relationship until he died last year. This will be a sad Valentine’s Day without him.

  • Everything stops for at least one day to dedicate and recognize the power of love. Whether it be family, friends or romance, this is the day to celebrate and pay homage to that transforming energy that makes the bad stuff seem so manageable. And hopefully, according to the plan, if you give tribute and attention to it now, that same love keeps popping up throughout the year when you really need it.

We go to the annual Buffalo Chips men's acappella Valentine concert. We have been going for over a decade, shortly after the group was formed. It's fun, inexpensive ($5), and a real pleasure. It's this Saturday at 7:30 at Slee Hall. It's perfect for my husband who hates feeling forced by the florists, greeting card companies, and chocolate makers to show his love for me on just one particular day.
