The newly constituted search committee that is recruiting a new dean for the School of Nursing will begin its work tomorrow at its first scheduled meeting.

The committee, appointed by David L. Dunn, vice president for health sciences, is charged with finding a successor to Jean K. Brown, who announced in December that she will step down from the deanship in August after nearly six years at the helm of the school.

Lynn Kozlowski, dean of the School of Public Health and Health Professions, has been named chair of the search committee.

Other members of the committee are Linnea Aina, chief clinical officer, Sheehan Health Network; Toni Booker, vice president for human resources, Kaleida Health System; Yu-Ping Chang, assistant professor, School of Nursing; R. Lorraine Collins, professor of community health and health behavior and associate dean for research, School of Public Health and Health Professions; Bonnie Glick, director of nursing, Erie County Medical Center; Michael Hatton, clinical associate professor of oral diagnostic sciences, School of Dental Medicine.

Also, Patty Havard, associate professor of pharmacy practice, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences; Pamela Knaszak, undergraduate nursing student; Robin Lally, assistant professor, School of Nursing; Joseph Mollendorf, Faculty Senate representative and professor of mechanical and Aerospace engineering; School of Engineering and Applied Sciences; Rana Obeidat, graduate nursing student; Thomas Obst, clinical professor and coordinator of the Nurse Anesthetist Program, School of Nursing.

Also, Davina Porock, professor and associate dean for research, School of Nursing; Sanjay Sethi, associate professor of medicine, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences; Mary Kay Vause, senior director of workforce development, Catholic Health System; Deborah Waldrop, associate professor, School of Social Work; Lizabeth Weiss, chief of nursing service, Veterans Administration Hospital of Western New York; and Joyce Yasko, vice president for clinical research administration and services, Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

UB also has hired consultants Stephen Peeps, partner, and Charles M. Meng, managing partner, of the national executive search firm Meng, Finseth, Peeps & Associates to assist in the search. Prior to joining Meng, Finseth, Peeps & Associates, Peeps was a partner at the executive search firm Heidrick & Struggles, and earlier in his career held senior executive positions at Stanford University. Meng co-founded the firm in 1970; he has more than 30 years of experience in the executive search profession.

At tomorrow’s initial meeting, the search committee likely will develop the search process and appropriate timetable, and to begin to solicit for nominations.

“We plan to recruit an individual with stellar academic credentials who will lead the ongoing initiatives of the faculty of the school to move its programs into the top tier,” Dunn said. “I am sure we will attract a large number of excellent candidates, and I look forward to the committee’s recommendations.”
