Time to change health insurance

The Option Transfer Period for state employees, during which workers can change their health insurance carrier, voluntarily cancel coverage or delete dependents, runs through Dec. 31, 2010.

The effective date of change will be Jan. 6, 2011.

Information on coverage, a comparison of health insurance carriers, rates and forms are available on the University Human Resources website under “Quick Start” or by clicking here.

Forms must be completed and returned to HR no later than Dec. 31. 

PSS seeking nominations

The Elections Committee of the Professional Staff Senate is seeking nominations for senate officers to serve terms from July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2013.

Nominations are being sought for chair, vice chair and recording secretary.

All full-time members of the UB professional staff are eligible to submit nominations to run for office and to vote.

To nominate individuals, submit his or her name with e-mail addresses and department to pssenate@buffalo.edu no later than Dec. 20.

The PSS also is seeking nominations for SUNY-wide Faculty Senate for a three-year term beginning July 1, 2011 and running through June 30, 2014. The University Faculty Senate serves as a resource on governance for the university and as a deliberative body on educational policies for the SUNY system. Both faculty and professional staff may serve on the University Faculty Senate.

Communication webinar to be offered

Learn to avoid those misunderstandings with family members that are inevitable at the holidays by attending “Say What You Mean the Right Way: Strengthening Healthy Forms of Communication,” a free NYS Balance webinar being offered by UB’s Employee Assistance Program.

The webinar will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Dec. 16 in 322 Crofts Hall, North Campus. Participants are encouraged to bring their lunch.

The session will offer guidelines and tips for healthy and successful communication with family and friends during the stressful holiday season.
