  • Hale to lead UB housing office

Warren Hale, director of residence life at Loyola University in Chicago, has been named director of the Office of University Residence Halls and Apartments, effective next month.

Hale succeeds Joe Krakowiak, who is retiring after 37 years at UB. Krakowiak will remain as manager of the William R. Greiner Hall project through next summer. Greiner Hall, which will provide beds for 600 sophomores, is under construction adjacent to Fargo Quad in the Ellicott Complex. It is slated to be completed in August 2011.

Hale comes to UB with more than 25 years of experience in college and university housing at such institutions as the University of Alabama-Birmingham, Bemidji State University in Minnesota and Washington State University, in addition to Loyola.

His responsibilities have included long-term strategic planning and ongoing operation of new and existing university housing, as well as developing residential living-and-learning programs that addressed community, academic and student life issues.

He earned a BA in sociology and anthropology, and an MS in college student personnel services, both from Western Illinois University. He is active in professional organizations, and has held leadership and programming positions with the Association of College and University Housing Officers International, among other organizations.
