Police academy graduates second class

Twelve members of the UB community recently completed the second session of the Citizen Police Academy offered by UB Police.

The seven-week course, which began in February, offered faculty, staff, students and members of the community the opportunity to llearn about University Police operations and the role of police officers in the justice system.

Classes were conducted in an interactive setting taught by University Police officers and other public safety professionals. Subjects included fire and first aid, New York State penal law, traffic and accident investigations, criminal and crime scene investigation, and family offenses and domestic violence. Participants had the chance to accompany University Police on a patrol ride-a-long, along with other hands-on activities.

The program concluded with a graduation ceremony; participants were presented with a diploma by UB Police Chief Gerald W. Schoenle Jr. Graduates were:

  • Anna Sotelo-Peryea, sexual violence prevention specialist, Student Health and Wellness.
  • David Stall, University Police student assistant, Buffalo State College student.
  • Jenna Ward, local student.
  • Amie Schirching, degree auditor, Student Academic Records and Financial Services.
  • Bradley Curthoys, residence hall director, Residence Halls and Apartments.
  • Ryan Standish, network engineer, Operational Support Services, UBIT.
  • Carol Adler, resource analyst, Resource Planning and Information Management.
  • Joe Paulter, senior network engineer, UBIT.
  • Mike Rockey, University Police student assistant, Erie Community College student.
  • Jeanette Detraglia, University Police student assistant, UB student.
  • Benjamin Abel, community resident.
  • Patrick Hoar, ECC criminal justice student.
  • Rachel Brown, UB residence hall director.
  • Bethany Torres, UB residence hall resident advisor and justice, Student Wide Judiciary (SWJ).
  • Marjory Jaeger, staff assistant, UB Police.
  • Jaclyn Russello, UB student, SWJ staff member/justice.
