  • The Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge in the Town of Alabama in Genesee County is by far my favorite one-tank getaway—it’s a jewel for outdoor and wildlife enthusiasts. I often go birding or hiking there with friends, and I love taking my daughters there at night to call for owls.

  • Dog Hollow State Forest in Cortland County. It’s secluded, silent and has wonderful streams. Take the dog, poop bags, good walking shoes, water and a cold beer. Also, Knox Farm State Park in East Aurora. My dog, Larry, loves it.

  • We like to take our sailboat to Point Colborne on the southern Ontario shore. Who needs a tank?
