Memorial service
A memorial service will be held Oct. 17 for Virginia Leary, SUNY Distinguished Service Professor Emerita in the UB Law School who died April 8 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The service will begin at 11 a.m. in 106 O’Brian Hall, North Campus. A reception will immediately follow in the O’Brian foyer.
Leary, who had retired to Geneva in 1995 after serving on the UB Law faculty for 19 years, was a pioneer in teaching and scholarship in human rights law. A leader in international law, she served with distinction on the Executive Council of the American Society of International Law. She consulted extensively for NGOs and intergovernmental organizations, including the United Nations, and was one of the first women to attain universal recognition in international law.
