President John B. Simpson received the Theodore Roosevelt Award for Exemplary Citizenship and Service at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site Foundation dinner held last week in Kleinhans Music Hall. Simpson was honored for "his bold, comprehensive vision" in advancing UB 2020. In adding Simpson to its roll of those who reflect Roosevelt's ideals and spirit, the foundation said his leadership "assures UB's tradition of academic excellence, while also regenerating the economy of the Buffalo Niagara region."
Robert Knopf, professor and chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance, directed a revival of “bash,” a controversial play by Neil LaBute, in the Paradise Theatre in New York City. The production ran from Sept. 4 through Sept. 19.
The Buffalo Alliance For Education elected Mara B. Huber, special assistant to the president for Educational Initiatives and director of the Center for Educational Collaboration, as a board member for a term that expire in 2011. BAE is a nonprofit organization that strives to build and support relationships among business, community and schools to enhance and enrich student achievement in Western New York.
Jill Sessa, associate director of development in the School of Management, has been named to Business First’s 40 Under Forty class. The 40 honorees, all under the age of 40, are being recognized for their records of professional success and community involvement. They will be honored at a luncheon on Nov. 14.
