Kudos

The YWCA of Western New York has selected Lillian S. Williams, associate professor of African American studies, as the recipient of its 2009 "Racial Justice Award." The award recognizes Williams’ lifelong commitment to fighting for racial justice throughout New York, across the United States and in Africa.

Phillip Coppens, SUNY Distinguished Professor in the Department of Chemistry, and Jo Freudenheim, UB Distinguished Professor and Chair Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, received Distinguished Postdoc Mentor Awards at the first Postdoc Research Symposium held May 12. They were among 12 faculty members nominated for the honor by university-affiliated postdoctoral scholars. The symposium offered postdocs from UB’s three campuses, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, the Research Institute on Addictions and Hauptman-Woodward Institute the opportunity to come together to present their research. Postdoc Brian Teng of RPCI received the First Place Award for his poster and research presentation; honorable mentions were awarded to Amy Brown, Research Institute on Addictions, and Alissa Lange, Department of Learning and Instruction, Graduate School of Education.
