A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. June 6 in Amherst Memorial Chapel, 281 Dodge Road, Getzville, for Lynne Hochberg Pace, an ophthalmologist and former UB clinical faculty member who died April 14 from brain cancer at her winter home in Arizona. She was 63.

Born in New York City, the former Lynne Barbara Hochberg graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree from Queens College, CUNY, in 1971 and an MD from UB in 1975.

After completing her ophthalmology residency at what now are UB’s affiliated hospitals, she started working at the VA Medical Center in Buffalo, becoming chief of service in 1985.

She later served as chief of the ophthalmology section at the VA Medical Center and the VA Western New York Health System.

A diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, Pace also was a clinical assistant professor in UB’s Department of Ophthalmology, where she trained countless ophthalmology residents over the years until she became ill in September 2014.

In her retirement letter, Pace said her greatest professional satisfaction was providing medical care for the nation’s veterans for more than 35 years and contributing to the education of ophthalmologists who now practice all over the United States.

She will be honored posthumously on June 5 at UB’s annual Ophthalmology Symposium, which will be dedicated to recognizing her career achievements.
