Quilt of hope

The Health in the Neighborhood course in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences was taught last spring to educate students about why medical disparities develop and how people are impacted by them. Students were paired with families in the Martin Luther King Jr. neighborhood so they could become familiar with life in the community. It was a unique collaborative learning experience, and when it ended in May, people wanted to commemorate it. The result: a friendship quilt, which was presented to members of the Hopewell Baptist Church on Aug. 26. Photos: Douglas Levere (except where noted)
