Department of Music presents free concerts

The free concerts presented by the Department of Music are a wonderful opportunity to hear great music at no cost.

The second Brown Bag Concert of the season will take place at noon on Nov. 5 on the stage in Lippes Concert Hall in Slee Hall, North Campus.

Now in its 13th season, the Brown Bag series of free, informal concerts presented during the lunch hour allows patrons to catch a glimpse of the kind of programming offered on a regular basis by the Department of Music. Each attendee will receive a voucher redeemable for two complimentary tickets to a more formal concert during the following month.

A number of student performances also are free of charge. The schedule:

  • UB Symphony Orchestra: Daniel Bassin, conductor, 7:30 p.m., Nov. 2, Lippes Concert Hall (Fall Concert 1: “Shakespearean Drama and Musical Poetics”) and 7:30 p.m., Nov. 22, Lippes
    Concert Hall (Fall Concert II: “Lyricism and the Shakespearean Tragedy”)
  • MM Recital: Teresa Leone, trombone, 7:30 p.m., Nov. 3, Baird Recital Hall, 250 Baird Hall, North Campus
  • Voice Studio Recital: 12:30 p.m., Nov. 13, Baird Recital Hall 
  • String Studio Recital: noon, Nov. 14, Baird Recital Hall
  • UB Percussion Ensemble: Tom Kolor, director, 7:30 p.m., Nov. 15, Lippes Concert Hall
  • Chamber Music Concert: 7:30 p.m., Nov. 16, Baird Recital Hall
  • UB Jazz Ensemble: Dave Schiavone, director, 3 p.m., Nov. 17, Baird Recital Hall
  • UB Concert Band: Jon Nelson, conductor, 7:30 p.m., Nov. 19, Lippes Concert Hall  
  • MM Recital: Calvin Rice, trumpet, 5 p.m., Nov. 24, Baird Recital Hall.
