US News and World Reports grad school ranking 2014.

Several UB graduate and professional degree programs have been recognized as among the best in the country by U.S. News & World Report in its annual ranking of “America’s Best Graduate Schools” released on March 13.

“UB has many outstanding graduate programs, led by very talented scholars,” said Provost Charles F. Zukoski. “We’re pleased to be recognized for the excellent education we provide our students.”

According to U.S. News, the rankings are based on two types of data: expert opinions about program excellence and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school’s faculty, research and students.

The data come from surveys of administrators at more than 1,250 programs and more than 13,000 academics and professionals conducted during the fall of 2012 and early 2013.

“We are thrilled to see SUNY colleges and universities once again ranked among the best in the country by U.S. News & World Report,” said Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher. “The SUNY campuses to make the 2014 Best Graduate Schools list are consistently recognized for the top quality and top value that they offer students, and rightly so. Congratulations to the University at Buffalo and to UB President Satish K. Tripathi on this much deserved recognition.”

Among the U.S. News rankings for the best professional schools, the School of Social Work is ranked No. 26, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences is ranked No. 61; the School of Nursing is No. 79; the Graduate School of Education is No. 79; and the Law School is No. 86. The School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is ranked No. 64 for medicine research and No.79 for primary care.

The School of Management’s MBA program is ranked No. 75 out of 448 programs surveyed, up 14 places from last year.

“We’ve worked hard to enhance the quality of our academic programs and global reputation by focusing our resources on the recruitment of high-caliber students and top faculty,” said Arjang Assad, dean of the School of Management. “It is most gratifying to see those efforts reflected in this ranking.”

The UB School of Management is the only business school in the Buffalo-Niagara region to be included in the U.S. News business school rankings.

Among the best programs in the social sciences, arts and humanities, UB’s PhD program in English is ranked No. 44 in the country, the PhD program in psychology is ranked No. 63 and the master of fine arts program (MFA) is ranked No. 72. The master’s program in library and information studies is ranked No. 39. Other UB rankings include history (92), political science (75) and sociology (78).
