Campus Dining and Shops has earned a silver award in this year’s National College and University Food Service Association’s (NACUFS) Sustainability Awards contest.

CDS was recognized in the “Outreach and Education” category for its participation in the “Pride of New York” program, the New York State program that promotes and supports the sale of agricultural products grown and food produces processed within the state.

The NACUFS Sustainability Awards annually recognize and honor institutions that have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the promotion and implementation of environmental sustainability, specifically as it relates to campus dining operations. Prizes are awarded in five categories: Procurement Practices, Energy and Water Conservation, Waste Management, Materials and Resources, and Outreach and Education.

“We are very honored to be recognized for our efforts to promote local farms and food manufacturers,” says Jeff Brady, CDS executive director. “As a local company ourselves, we know the importance of helping our community find and choose local products while building relationships with growers, food artisans and food manufacturers right here in Western New York.”

This is the second award from NACUFS that CDS has received this year. It also won a gold award in the 40th annual Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards contest for Crossroads Culinary Center, its new state-of-the-art residential dining center.

Both awards will be presented at NACUFS’s 2013 national conference, being held July 10-13 in Minneapolis.
